Configuring an account

The StreamZilla CDN accounts are easy to setup: choose an account, add storage and traffic bundles, select the bursting rate and choose a support level. All accounts support all popular delivery types. We do not limit concurrent streams. You can start flexible and grow along with your audience. Save extra by committing to volumes.

Do I need separate accounts and bundles for downloads, and per streaming format?

No, most Content Delivery Networks charge you separately per delivery service: downloads, vod streaming per protocol, live streaming per protocol. Some even lock the traffic bundles per delivery type. Some even charge you extra for High Definition support, mobile streaming or statistics.

With StreamZilla, everything is integrated in your account: progressive downloads, live streaming, vod streaming, flash, windows media, H.264, 3GPP, realtime statistics, historical reports, professional API's and a professional, easy to use web dashboard. Do you offer utility based services or pre-committed bundles?

Both! If you want utility based flexibility, choose a Small or Medium account with limited additional storage or traffic bundles. Extra traffic is charged at competitive rates.

If you can predict your volumes, it is cheaper to pre-commit to a larger account or a larger storage or traffic bundle which are charged at agressively low rates.

Best practice is to start flexible and learn your volumes in the first months, then commit to larger accounts or larger bundled volumes.

Which accounts fit my needs?

All accounts offer the exact same features and performance. If you do not know the expected storage, traffic and peak volumes, we advise to start with a small account because you can upgrade anytime. The Small Business CDN Medium package is the most favorite package. You can upgrade your account with extra storage and traffic bundles. You can upgrade from any account to a larger account. You can upgrade from Small Business to Enterprise accounts.

What is the difference between NL and INT accounts?

There is no technical difference. The difference is in delivery costs. If your audience is >90% in the Netherlands, all traffic can be delivered through peering, which is cheaper.

What is the difference between Small, Medium and Large accounts?

The larger the account, the larger the storage and traffic bundles, with extra savings. For instance, when you add extra storage and traffic bundles for a Small account, to match the bundles to a Medium or Large account, the Medium or Large accounts are cheaper.

What is the difference between Professional and High Volume accounts?

There is no technical difference! The difference is volume pricing. The storage and traffic rates for High Volume customers are charged in larger volumes at discount rates. In general we advise to choose for the Professional accounts if you need less than 1TB storage, 10TB traffic and 10Gbps bursting. Professional accounts offer the option for for lower support and no redundancy to save costs.

Can I use unused bundled traffic in other months?

Traffic bundles are pre-committed so the prices can be kept very low. Therefore bundles can only be used per month. If you want maximum flexibility, select the smallest account and pay for extra traffic afterwards.

Why is there a monthly fee for an account?

The monthly fee covers the basic operational costs. The benefit of a base fee is that the costs for traffic can be lower when compared to similar service providers who only charge for storage, traffic and / or requests, because we do not have to make high margins on traffic. Your minimum monthly cost may be a bit higher, but you get more features, better support and with volume the total monthly costs are much lower.

Can you help me calculate my storage, traffic and bursting requirements?

Yes, our sales staff can help you estimate your requirements and propose a package. We can compare your project to many other projects to estimate your needs. To give you a perfect quote, please share as much details as you can: at what bit rate do you expect to encode? How many hours content do you expect to publish? How many viewers do you expect per month? How many simultaneous viewers do you expect on average and at peak?

What is the difference between GigaBytes (GB) and Gigabits (Gb)?

File sizes (storage) and Traffic (distributed data) are calculated in (Giga/Tera)Bytes. Bit rates (Bandwidth) are calculated in (Kilo/Mega/Giga)bits. When encoding, you enter Kilobits or Megabits per second. For storage and traffic, we calculate per GigaByte, TeraByte or PetaByte. For bursting peaks, we calculate per Gigabit.

Remember that view time is not the same as file duration. Not everyone watches the entire video or webcast. The average online viewing time is just a few minutes.

How do I calculate bandwidth?

Try Google Calculator, example: 1500 concurrent viewers at 1,5Mbps
Remember that for on-demand streaming the number of concurrent viewers is much lower than for live streaming since everyone watches at a different moment.

Can I add storage bundles to my new account?

When ordering a new account, add more storage in the online form. The form immediately reflects the total storage and the prices.

Can I add storage bundles to my existing account?

Yes, send an email to sales@streamzilla.eu and tell us how much extra storage you need.

What happens if I reach my storage quotum?

You cannot upload new assets. Remove old assets or request an upgrade. Used and available storage are reported in the VDO-X CDN Management web interface and via the XML Feedback API's.

What happens when I exceed my total monthly traffic bundle?

The service is continued because you do not want your viewers to get an error. The extra traffic is added to your bill. If this occurs repeatedly, ask sales@streamzillacdn.com for a account or traffic bundle upgrade: pre-committed traffic is cheaper than extra traffic. Traffic usage is reported in the historical reports.

What is the default bursting cap?

The core bursting cap is 2Gbps. For popular assets there is an additional bursting cap of 2Gbps as well. This means that long tail content can burst up to 2Gbps and we reserve 2Gbps extra for your popular content. Our CDN automatically recognizes popular assets and streams and automatically replicates these to our bursting servers. Users are automatically redirected to those servers. You can upgrade the bursting cap step at anytime. The store allows you to upgrade to 10Gbps. If you need higher burst capacity, contact our sales department.

Do you charge for, or limit concurrent streams?

We do not charge for concurrent streams. We charge for traffic. There is no limit on concurrent streams. The only limit is the 2Gbps of your account, plus the bursting capacity that you selected for your account.

Do you charge for, or limit requests?

No. Some CDN's claim they have low traffic costs, but also charge you additionally for the number of processed requests. We do not charge you for the number of requests.

Do you charge for, or limit upload / upstream traffic?

No. Upload and upstream traffic is marginal compared to download / downstream traffic. We expect Fair Use of upload / upstream capacity.

Do you charge for, or limit concurrent source streams?

No. You can setup multiple source streams in multiple bit rates and multiple formats per account. We expect Fair Use of upstream capacity.

I need more than 10TB storage / 10PB traffic / 10Gbps bursting

I expect over 100.000 viewers simultaneously!

We get many similar claims, are you sure? We do not want to discourage you, but not that much projects really generate those volumes. Internet viewers tend not to watch for more than 15 minutes to live streams. With VOD streams, the viewers spread over the hours and watch for a few minutes at maximum on average: with just 1Gbps bursting you can deliver hundred thousands video streams per day.
